Frequently Asked Questions

What is Zeroin and how does it work?

Zeroin is an online service that stores location information provided to it over the internet via a mobile application installed on a supported cellphone. The information Zeroin gathers can be visualised on a map behind a secure login using a simple web browser.

How do you set up the Zeroin web service?

How do you setup Zeroin on a device?

What phones does Zeroin support?

The key requirement is a phone that supports the JSR-179 class on it's Java implementation. Refer to the support information for your handset to confirm or else simply download the application and test! Known devices are the later-model Nokia S60 devices with an internal GPS aerial. We are looking forward to the release of a new Sonim model which we hope to support! Further confirmation of all supported models will follow soon...

How much data will the application use on the cell phone?

We have chosen to improve the method of sending data from the device in the field which has a marked increase a typical fleet-tracking usage. Depending on configuration and the way your network bills you the service should expend under 2MB per day.

What coverage does Zeroin have?

This is a three-part question:
First, the device in the field must be able to access the internet over a cellular network. If you can't get network coverage you cannot send data to Zeroin.
Second, the device must be within range of receiving GPS transmissions from satellites, inside a building is no good however in a car is fine.
Third, to visualise the data on a PC your local area must be supported. We are working with a number of resellers to ensure the majority of the planet is covered. If you want to check simply have a look through our demo and check the mapping coverage for your area!

I have set up the Zeroin service and installed the application on my phone - why am I not coming up on my map?

The first place to check is the application itself. Remember to capture your GPS position the application must be running on the device (but don't worry, you can hide the application so it is not on your screen all the time) and be within cellular network coverage.
The application screen provides some valuable feedback on the state of the service. First of all you should check to see if the application has successfully logged on to your account (it should say Logged on as [username] of [group] group). If it does not then ensure you have entered the unique Device ID as provided by your My Devices page to the phone application. If the problem persists - or you can logon but no data is being sent (the Failed counter keeps going up) then check the network settings on the device or with your network provider. For example, New Zealand users should use the Internet APN name. One more common pitfall to check is the Security Permissions of the cell phone. As the application is not written by the phone manufacturer it is considered 'unauthorised' until so prompted by the user to allow it to use services such as the internet or the GPS aerial. Check your phone's documentation how to ensure that internal permissions are not denying the application rights to use the network. If all else fails contact us by the tab at the header of this page and describe the problem you are having.
